Welcome to our WaterTheft website, which will report the progress we make in our project towards forecasting adaptation surprises in human–water systems....
The Arenales Aquifer is one of the 3 living labs which will be analyse troughout the research project. It presents about 115,000 ha of agricultural activity where almost 13,000 ha are considered as irrigable
To classify irrigated agricultural areas satellite-based, the approach briefly consists of applying thresholds values on the Vegetation Index (VI) time series from remote sensing imagery to distinguish different crops or crop groups that develop over certain time periods within an irrigation campaign. To support VI thresholds, the approach benefits from local knowledge on cultivated crop...
The methodology consists of including crop type/group pixel-based VI time series into the FAO56 methodology to estimate crop water consumptions and irrigation requirements at pixel-based scale and daily frequency time scale.
